The architriclinus: Iconographic History of an Interstitial Character Between Antiquity and the Middle Ages
The aim ofthis contribution is to analyse the historical and iconographie evolution of the character of the architriclinus mentioned in the episode of the Marriage at Cana, through a comparative approach ofliterary sources and a corpus of works of art in which the character is represented. The aim, therefore, is to observe and grasp the perception, during the Middle Ages, of a secondary character of the evangelical narrative who, over the course of time, has undergone numerous semantic transformations.
