Asymptotic methods in ferromagnetism

Méthodes asymptotiques en ferromagnétisme

Résumé

We are interested in problems coming from the ferromagnetism theory and particularly in the asymptotic behaviour of the magnetic moment in various circumstances. In the first part the Landau-Lifschitz equation that governs the evolution of the magnetic moment is associated to the magnetostatic equations. When the exchange coefficient goes to 0 in the Landau-Lifschitz equation it appears a boundary layer that takes into account the boundary condition. We are interested here in the critical case where the size of the ferromagnetic domain in one or two directions is as small as the thickness of the boundary layer. We then look for the limit models fulfilled by the magnetic moment as well as an asymptotic expansion of the solution. Thanks to a rescaling we are lead back to a fixed domain and we use the WKB method. We then introduce differential operators adapted to the geometry and weighted Sobolev spaces to solve 2D exterior problems, and we estimate the remainder terms thanks to anisotropic Sobolev spaces adapted to the small size of the domains. In the second part we are interested in small perturbations of stable stationnary solution of the Landau-Lifschitz-Maxwell equations for which the nonlinear, dispersive and diffractive effects happen simultaneously on a long time scale. We then describe its solutions thanks to an asymptotic expansion where the two time scales make up the main difficulty. We obtain that the main profile splits into several propagating terms that fulfill on the long time scale the Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya equation that modelizes diffractive effects in gas dynamic. This work is completed by a numerical study that highlights the diffractive effects thanks to numerical schemes running on long times.
