Abstract

This paper is a short comment about the paper “stress propagation and arching in static sandpiles” by Wittmer, Cates and Claudin [1]. It concerns the validity of the radial stress field (RSF) scaling assumption used to calculate the stress distribution in a conic granular material and its agreement with different experimental data.
