Design of Delay-based Proportional Integral Controllers (δ-PI) for Second-order LTI Systems ⋆

Résumé

This note focuses on the design of a delay-based proportional integral (PI) control scheme, proposed as an alternative to the classical PI controller. By adopting a geometric approach, we establish tuning rules to achieve closed-loop stability, ensure a specific decay rate, and assess its fragility. Specifically, through the appropriate design of the delay parameter, the proposed controller facilitates improvement in settling time and reduction of overshoot, while maintaining control efforts lower than its classical counterpart. We present several numerical examples to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
