The heritage waterfront landscape of globalization. The case of Paris “metropole city on the Seine”

Résumé

Paris is an example of the new role played by heritage in the redevelopment of waterfronts. Since 1990s’, the waterfront is included in a metropolitan strategy which uses not only the zoning and the logistic insertion of the river ports, but the density of monuments and museums, listed as a World Heritage Site, and the world tourism (especially interested in cruises on the Seine) too. A new planning, in particular with the recovery project of the town council directed by Bertrand Delanoë, is turning the banks of the Seine into a new urban centrality. This case-study concludes on the general idea, ispired by François Walter’s landscapes of nation, of the heritage waterfront as landscape of globalization.
