A tale as a tool
A tale as a tool.
This article aims to show the use of a literary short story as a tool in ethnographic and artistic
investigation situations. A descent into Edgar Allan Poe’s maelström - which stages a possible
image of the abyss (the maelstrom) – allows to address future dangers that are difficult to
perceive in the present by proposing a dynamic model that fluctuates between confined worlds
and the « becoming-abyss » of worlds. The interweaving of narrative and interviewing
techniques offers the possibility of identifying techniques of perception and alert, as well as the
necessary attachments in the face of changing and potentially catastrophic development
potentiellement catastrophiques.
