H.F. Thiéfaine's texts featuring the snake, or its equivalents such as dragons and alligators, bring out the archetypal dimension, itself the bearer of a recurring ambivalence. Sometimes associated with the feminine, sometimes with the masculine, carrying a strong erotico-sexual potential but also representing the power of the devil, the snake, through the venom it distills, embodies a deadly yet irresistible seduction, to which the figures confronted with it succumb even if they are able to overcome the ordeal of the initiatory encounter.
