Résumé

As early as the late 90’s did researchers acknowledge the progression of the marketplace from a single location to an arena of a holistic consumption experience (Pine and Gilmore 1999). Today, these progressions are evident in the emerging of transformed retail spaces (Verhoef et al. 2015; Zhu et al. 2021). Most importantly, retail outlets are streamlined into comprehensive store networks that are combined with digital shopping platforms creating a transformed consumer experience (Verhoef 2021). Major brick and mortar retailers, such as Macy’s and Neiman Marcus, increasingly utilize digital and mobile touchpoints in conjunction with physical retail locations while digital-first players, such as DJ.com and Amazon, open physical stores to offer customers more complex consumption experiences consisting of multiple micro-experiences (Antéblian et al. 2013). In this increasingly complex shopping context, the nature of the physical, digital and mobile shopping experiences and related constructs - especially shopping value - need to be reconsidered. Additionally, if multiple channel strategies are prominent today anywhere in the world, culture influences shopping experiences and value, and the respective role of each channel (e.g., Smith et al. 2013). From a methodological perspective, current research often adapts existing scales to fit new context and countries. One challenge with adapting scales not developed for a specific context or country is the potential loss of meaning when simply translating or changing items (Ford et al. 2011). Furthermore, most of the available scales about shopping value have been developed in the US which limits applicability in other cultures and countries. As such, scales designed in specific countries are needed to offer researchers a suitable tool to assess value.
