Les mosaïques de la maison de Loukios Kornelios à Uzès (France)
Résumé
Excavations in Ucetia have brought to light a courtyard domus with concrete floors and ploychrome mosaics in the Hellenistic tradition. On room has a plain mosaic carpet boarded by a band of reversible crenellated towers, and includes a panel flanked by a cartouche inscribed in Greek with the owner's name. In the adjoining room, the tessellatum is framed by two lateral concrete bands décorated with meanders. In a large quadrangular carpet with a central panel, four animals are depicted in the spandrels around the circular medallion. The elegance of the composition, as well as the stylization of the figure single out this decoration from whose known in Southern Gaul in the first century BC.
