ASM - Archéologie des Sociétés Méditerranéennes

The Mixed Archaeological Research Unit of Mediterranean Societies is an archaeological research laboratory entirely dedicated to the study of Mediterranean societies, from Prehistory to the Middle Ages. The geographic and chronological scope of its programs, led by five structured teams, responds to the multiplicity of its subjects of study and its types of approach. From great emblematic monuments to the humble remains of everyday life, cave paintings in the shapes of the landscape, vases with figures with pollens, lapidary inscriptions with agricultural traces, from statuary to paleoenvironment, all the material data of ancient cultures in their environment are collected, classified, hierarchical, analyzed, compared, to bring their contribution to the multimillennial history of the Mediterranean people. Heir to several previous units, the laboratory registers its scientific activity within the framework of a five-year contract (2020-2025) between several supervisors, the CNRS, the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the University Paul Valéry Montpellier III and INRAP. Today, it has more than 150 statutory members from these four partner institutions: researchers, teacher-researchers, engineers, technicians and administrators, doctoral students, post-docs who together contribute to the realization of research projects, transmission and promoting their results in the most diverse forms (publications, seminars, teaching, exhibitions, events, etc.).
