Prognostic impact of epileptic seizures in multiple sclerosis varies according to time of occurrence and etiology

Résumé

The prevalence of epileptic seizures during multiple sclerosis (MS) is estimated at between 0.9% and 10.8% [1-9], whereas the prevalence of epilepsy in the general population is evaluated at approximately 0.5%-0.8% [10]. Even if an epileptic seizure is not considered to be a classic event in MS, it has been shown that they can be the only symptom of relapse [11, 12], sometimes the first relapse of MS, before the first classic MS event. They can also appear after MS onset, in association with the accumulation of lesions in the brain tissue
