DEVELOPING LEADER COMPETENCE WITH COACHING QUESTIONS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE-BASED TOOLS CHANGE OF SCHEMAS AND MULTILEVEL IMPACTS

Résumé

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is viewed as a disruption to Human Resource Development and Leadership competencies development but how? Our answer is that, by automating executive coaching behaviours such as open questions, AI can act as a facilitator for developing leader competence and leadership competencies within managerial situations at multiple levels of an organization. Reflection and reflexivity are central components in leader development, and open questions help leaders reflect on their knowledge, experiences, environment, thoughts, and feelings is an establish practice for developing executive competence within the flow of work and training. We analysed twenty-three cases of leader-AI conversations from three different organizations to understand and explain the process through which AI-based coaching tools support the development of leaders at the individual and collective levels. Our paper offers theoretical contributions to Leadership, HR and organization-oriented literature as well as provides Leadership, HR and Managerial Education practitioners with key insights on the mechanisms to develop leader competence with AI and Coaching behaviours.
