Marble Tombs from Ghazni (15th-18th centuries): Morphological and Epigraphic Remarks
Résumé
Funerary inscriptions play an important role among the epigraphic evidence collected at Ghazni through surveys and archaeological investigations. This paper offers an overview of the city’s funerary landscape in late medieval and pre-modern times, showing the main morphological and epigraphic features of marble tombs dating from the 15th century onwards. These tombs attest a long tradition of skilled local craftsmanship. Their epitaphs bear witness to the role the city attained over time as a holy destination.
