Eratóstenes y la figura geográfica de los extremos atlánticos de Europa
Résumé
At the end of the third century BC, Eratosthenes of Cyrene created the first comprehensive cartographic image of the Atlantic edge of Europe. However, the attempts to reconstruct the western part of his map that have been made over two centuries present great variations, reflecting different interpretations of the passages of Strabo’s Geography that summarize and discuss the description of Eratosthenes. Here we try to synthesize the information on the dimensions and the form of the far West of Europe found in the fragments whose attribution to Eratosthenes is beyond any doubt.
