Simulation Framework for Studying UHF RFID Systems in Pulse Wave Mode

Résumé

In this paper, a method to model a passive UHF RFID system is presented and a practical application on PW (Pulse Wave) mode is described. Two levels of simulation are performed. A system level simulation (circuit model) including transmitter, modeled channel and receiver is developed using ANSYS Designer and interfaced with Matlab. And a physical-layer level simulation (electromagnetic model) including transmitting and receiving antennas and a propagation medium is performed under ANSYS HFSS. The approach used is relatively simple and easily reproducible with high flexibility; components could be added or removed as needed to fit for the required application.
