Target tracking in the time-frequency domain for a driving aid application

Résumé

Driving aid is an important emerging radar application. Among associated technological issues, detecting and tracking potential obstacles (cars, pedestrians, static objects . . . ) is of key interest. In this context, we propose an original tracking method, based on particle filtering, where the observation of the state vector is the cross-ambiguity function of the backscattered signal. Simulations for various waveforms demonstrate the improvement brought compared to the conventional approach, in which a detection step precedes the tracking.
