New Antenna Design Concept for Future Generation Wireless Communication Systems
Résumé
Design methodologies for antenna arrays of future generation mobile system are required to provide solutions able to maximize the data-rate performance of the system. However, current design methodologies are focused on the maximization of pattern-related performance metrics in order to indirectly provide solutions with optimal capacity performance. This work is aimed at showing that there is not a direct or indirect relation between pattern performance and capacity performance, since the latter strongly depends on the surrounding scenario. As a consequence, new design methodologies should take into consideration the propagation scenario instead of pattern performance metrics in the design process. In order to provide a preliminarily proof of this concept an illustrative numerical example is shown.
