Enhancing design representational environment to support design learning in the studios
Résumé
The focus of this article is on specific features of architectural design critics in the studios. The design representational environment provides the setting for design issues to be discussed between students and tutors, and new propostions to be made. Issues during the critiques sessions, such as misunderstanding and miscommunication between students and tutors, can lead to a poor pedagogic experience. We propose the use of an alternative environment to uspport the critiques, providing alternative types of design representations. Our system, CORAULIS, will display simultaneously an immersive egocentric view of the design (supported by Virtual Reality - VR) and a dynamic exocentric view of the design (using Spatial Augmented Reality - SAR), within a unique physical space. We hypothize that the use of CORAULIS for such a pedagogic moment might be a mean to enhance communication and understanding between the different actors of the critiques.
