An Interface for Landscape Architecture Analysis
Résumé
The use of computer-aided tools is more and more widespread in the field of
Landscape Architecture. As our activities at the National School of Higher Studies in
Landscape Architecture (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Nature et du Paysage –
ENSNP, Blois, France) are related to computer science, this computerization attracted
our interest. Our goal is to propose approaches in order to develop Landscape
Architecture methods and tools in this context. Many discussions with students and
landscape architects who are teaching at our university led us to notice certain issues
concerning the software applications used in Landscape Architecture. As presented in
the next section, we are firstly interested in proposing an approach to help landscape
architects during the analysis phase of a project. To efficiently communicate our
solution to landscape architects, and especially to the students and the other teachers of
our university, we chose an experimental method by implementing a prototype that
includes our solution. The use of our prototype by landscape architects provides us
with useful feedback. Then, we can improve our solution according to the nature of
feedback. The participation of Landscape Architecture teachers and students to the
experimentation is instructive and very motivating for all of us. This experimental
method also brings new tools to the students.
