Service-oriented Continuous Queries for Pervasive Systems

Abstract

Computing environments evolve towards what is called pervasive systems: they tend to be more and more heterogeneous, decentralized and autonomous. From a data-centric point of view, applications in such environments have to use traditional databases alongside with non-conventional data sources like data streams and services. In this research, we propose a framework that allows the development of applications for pervasive environments using service-oriented continuous queries over non-conventional data sources. This framework defines a homogeneous representation of those heterogeneous data sources to get a unified view of the environment. It allows declarative definitions of service-oriented continuous queries using a SQL-like language. We also tackle the design of a Pervasive Environment Management System that handles non-conventional data sources and whose overall objective is to make the development of pervasive applications easier.
