Delivery area IT based management: ALF project

Résumé

This paper describes an in-progress research project (called ALF project, Aires de Livraison du Futur, i.e. Next Generation Delivery Areas) which objective is to increase the use of delivery areas by prior reservation and dynamic adjustment if necessary. Information Technologies (IT) with mobile communicating devices and in-roadway sensors are used to support the management process system. The paper is organized as follows: first a general discussion about the problematic of urban goods delivery is introduced, then the main principles of the approach are presented. In the next section the road map of the project is given. Because the system implies an important change in people behavior, an additional system component has been specified: a serious game which is devoted to heighten people and decision makers’ awareness of such approach, and to train operational actors (drivers – delivery men and logisticians).
