Geometrical Aspects of Wood Aging Based on 3GMap L-System Growth Model
Résumé
In this paper, we propose a new approach to wood aging problems in computer graphics. During its life, wood suffers from various damages due, for example, to insects, fungus or drying. These damages can have an impact on the appearance of wood, for example insects can create galleries in its structure and drying can lead to topological changes or misshapenness. According to botanic literature, it seems obvious that these geometric alterations are dependent on the internal structure of wood. In order to take into account this consideration, we propose to base our approach on a growth model of wood. In this paper we have chosen to tackle the aspects of aging that seem to be the most important and whose impact on the geometry of wood is significant. So, in this paper, we have chosen to focus on: insects and mushrooms attacks, some various kinds of slits and on the phenomenon of erosion.
