Résumé

Since cell phone operate in direct contact with the head and hence with the Central Nervous System experimental studies performing cognitive assay to analyze neurological function and responses to radiofrequency (RF) exposure were realized on animal and human volunteers. Nevertheless results for low level exposure still remain controversial [1]. Therefore, to better investigate this aspects, in vitro studies on isolated brain tissues were carried out [2]. Such studies, in fact, are the most suitable to give information on neuronal functionality and to observe synaptic transmission alterations crucial to high cognitive functions development. Hence, in this paper an alternative in vitro real time exposure set-up for electrophysiological recordings constituted by an open transverse electromagnetic (TEM) cell and a passive multiple electrodes array (MEA) has been proposed. The numerical and experimental characterization of the system is here reported and results discussed at 1.8 GHz.
