Professional writings as a teacher training tool: old hat or cutting edge?

Résumé

Based on a study of teacher-trainees' and teacher-trainers' experiences and expectations, this paper explains why and how the foreign language department at Nancy IUFM (teacher training college) is currently turning to action-research projects. This is designed to help trainee teachers reflect and write about classroom difficulties while coming to terms with their distrust of theoretical research.
