The near underwater space: essay about the notion of landscape

Résumé

Is the “Underwater Landscape” a geographical object in France? If the “classic” geography of the sea and coastal zone does not contest the expression geographically, it is not really recognized. In all Natural Sciences, Biologists and Marine Ecologists have preferred to use and to create some other concepts. Almost absent in the scientific mind, the “Underwater Landscape” is quite growing in France but it really has to be, first and foremost, transdisciplinary culturally opened and nature orientated. It also has to integrate geographicals themes such as cartography and scales issues.
