Basic fluid mechanics for civil engineers

Abstract

This course is designed for engineering students in civil engineering: Introduction, hydrostatics and Archimedes' laws, conservation equations, Bernoulli's equation, Navier-Stokes equation, steady flows, rheology, non-newtonian fluids, porous media, capillarity. Main applications concern the hydrostatics force on dams and walls, wind force on high-rise buildings, flows of concrete and paint, capillary rise, flow through porous dams.
