Irreversible effects in the paramagnetic-state of DyVO4 in the crystallographic distorted phase

We have studied the low-field magnetic susceptibility (a.c. and d.c.), the magnetization and the hypersonic attenuation of DyVO4 in the paramagnetic state below the cooperative Jahn-Teller transition temperature. Irreversible phenomena depending on the sample thermal cycling are observed. We interpret these effects as due to the transformation from a polydomain to a monodomain crystallographic state favoured by a great mobility of the domain-walls.
