Investigating Power Module Recycling

Résumé

Power modules (PM) from waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) represent an underexploited source of strategic secondary raw materials. This study analyzes the material composition of different PM types to identify key challenges and opportunities for their end-of-life management in power electronics. A comprehensive inventory model of PM recycling is developed to identify the processes responsible for the main environmental impacts. Based on this model, the influence of material selection, subsystem design, and assembly on recycling performance is assessed, and alternative recycling scenarios are explored to reduce environmental impacts. A life cycle assessment (LCA) of the endof-life stage supports the analysis.
