Monitoring the electrical resistivity profiles of ordinary and slag concrete samples subjected to artificial tidal cycles
Résumé
Instrumented concrete specimens of two formulations, an ordinary and a BFS concrete, were subjected to long term artificial tide cycles. An embedded resistivity sensor was tested in this study to monitor resistivity profiles in concrete. Resistivity values in the slag concrete are several times greater than values in the ordinary concrete, which confirms the effect of BFS addition on the microstructure of concrete. The monitoring experiment clearly shows the ingress of salt water into concrete, at different depths in the samples. Finally, resistivity profiles from the embedded sensor compare well with resistivity profiles from surface resistivity measurements, thus validating this application of the embedded sensor.
