Patriottismo ebraico ed ebraismo patriottico: alla riscoperta delle memorie autobiografiche di Zaccaria Vita Carpi di Revere
Résumé
This article offers the first comparative study on the two autobiographical memoirs, the first in Italian and the second in Hebrew, delivered to posterity by Zaccaria Vita Carpi (1753-1838), a rare example of a revolutionary and democrat born into Italian Jewry in the late eighteenth century. Zaccaria Vita Carpi was a staunch anti-Austrian opponent, associated with the group of patriots of the first Cisalpine Republic, and an observant Jewish man of letters, committed to the life of the Jewish communities of Revere and Mantua. His personality and his writings epitomize the expressions of Jewish patriotism and patriotic Judaism.
