Innovation Assessment for SMEs: Insights from ISO 56002 & PII Framework
Résumé
Innovation is essential for the competitiveness of small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs), yet many lack structured innovation management practices. This paper presents a combined methodology integrating the ISO 56002 Innovation Management System with the Potential Innovation Index (PII) to assess and enhance innovation capacity in SMEs. Using a chemical trading sector company as a case study, the research applies PII as a diagnostic metric tool to identify innovation strengths and gaps, followed by the implementation of ISO 56002 principles to build a structured process recommendation. The methodology is designed to be practical, scalable, and aligned with the unique constraints of SMEs, including limited resources and informal innovation practices. The results demonstrate how a dual-framework approach enables better strategic alignment, process formalization, and performance monitoring. This study contributes to the innovation management field by offering an adaptable assessment model that supports continuous improvement and innovation maturity in SMEs.
