Digital Archives & Philosophy : The Foucault Reading Notes Project in Action

Résumé

In 2017, a group of researchers, engineers and documentalists came up with the idea of joining forces to offer a reading and research aid. Their work has enabled a large proportion of the philosopher's reading notes to be put online on the Eman platform (around 20,000 of the 30,000 listed). The notes are supplemented by a description and indexing that provides researchers with a useful entry point for finding their way around this dense mass. It was the first act of this project in action. This exploratory phase of the project was funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and aimed to make available online, annotate, and explore a large portion of Foucault's reading notes. It was led by Triangle (a CNRS lab at ENS Lyon) in partnership with CAPHÉS and the BnF. Between 2021 and 2023: the FFL project was halted due to lack of funding, while a new way is found to revive the project and complete it by expanding partnerships and objectives. The second stage of the project funded by the Michel Foucault Center is currently in progress. Its goals are to complete the corpus of reading notes and to link it to the philosopher's library. We also want to test new artificial intelligence tools.
