Genetics Studies on Stigmatic Receptivity for Hybrid Production in Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.)
Résumé
An account is given of the uses of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) in India and other countries. The chromosome number of okra was found to be 2n = 130. The experiment was conducted in the campus farm, Department of Agriculture, Kalasalingam academy of research and education, Krishnan kovil during March 2025. The results are given of studies on the floral structure, opening of the flowers, stigma receptivity, the characters of the stigma, pollen germination in vitro, pollen germination on the stigmas and pollen tube growth, stigmatic receptivity, mode of pollination, fruit development, diurnal effects on fruit development, and the best time to pick the fruit. Natural cross-pollination varied from 4.0 to 18.75%, the average being 8.75%.
