A Systematic Literature Review on the Relationship between Economic Growth and Some Regional Temperature Trends

Résumé

Economic growth is the goal of every region in development efforts. However, haphazard development can have a negative impact on environmental aspects, especially global warming. This study aims to analyze the relationship between regional temperature increases and economic growth in various countries using Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on secondary data. The data analyzed include the trend of temperature increases per decade and the average annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of several countries during the period 2010–2019. The results of the analysis show that there is no direct linear correlation between temperature increases and economic growth. Several countries such as China and India continue to record high economic growth despite experiencing significant temperature increases. In contrast, countries with sharply increasing temperatures such as Norway and Greenland actually show lower economic growth. These findings indicate that other factors such as economic structure, government policies, and adaptive capacity to climate change also affect the economic performance of these countries. Therefore, a cross-sectoral approach and evidence-based policies are needed to address the challenges of climate change holistically. The government needs to create regulations in implementing development, especially for business actors, so that short-term and long-term goals can be realized.
