Inventory of the castle of Solliès
Résumé
At the time of the transfer of control of the castle of Solliès (Var) to Jean Gonsalvi, in 1394, an inventory of the movables found in the castle was made. The inventory comprises a number of objects distributed across various rooms of the castle, including rooms described as the cellar, the small cellar, the pantry, the kitchen, the big room, the other room, the new room, the dressing room, the room of the tower, and so on. Among the objects listed, we find usual things such as foodstuffs (different types of grains whose monetary value was assessed), bedding, and common pieces of furniture such as tables and chests. The inventory also includes other items that are far more unusual, such as a set of handcuffs and chains found in the tower, which attest to the judicial authority associated with the lord of the castle. The inventory also lists buildings that formed part of the castle's estate, including a mill, a bastide, and the "ostel" where horses, oxen and pigs were found.
