Bibliophilia: Book Matters

Bibliophilia : Le livre, la matière et le vivant

Résumé

“Bibliophilia: Book Matters” celebrates the beauty, variety and affordances of the book in scribal and print cultures. It pays homage to the ongoing interest Interfaces has displayed for material culture, craft and artistry. The broad aim of this issue is to address the relation between the book, its materials, and human and non-human lifeforms. More specifically, it seeks to explore its ambivalence as an archive of the living world. The six papers and three of the interviews of this thematic issue are situated at the intersection of disciplines such as history, art history and literature. They can be read within the framework of book history as an “interdiscipline” (Howsam 14), of ecocritical intermediality and environmental humanities. They reflect the ecocritical turn in art history and the relevance of media archaeology for book studies.
