Improving the Potato Supply Chain in Western Algeria: An Optimization Model

Résumé

This study focuses on optimizing the potato supply chain in Algeria, particularly in the western region, where potatoes are a staple agricultural product. Despite significant production, the supply chain faces challenges such as inefficient planning, high losses, and price fluctuations, leading to food insecurity. This research aims to develop a mathematical model that maximizes cost efficiency by minimizing expenses related to transportation, storage, and purchasing throughout the supply chain. The model analyzes various factors, including planting areas, storage zones, and wholesale markets, to identify optimal resource allocation. The findings indicate that strategic planning can significantly enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the potato supply chain, ultimately improving revenue while addressing the pressing issues of waste and price instability. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector, aiming to foster better resource management and secure food supply in Algeria.
