Space Vector Modulation Techniques Comparison for Capacitor Voltage Balancing of Five-Level Inverters

Résumé

The objective of this paper is to evaluate two Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) strategies for power multilevel converters, with a focus on achieving algorithmic balance of capacitor voltages without additional power components. This approach aims to reduce costs while retaining the key benefits of multilevel converters: reduced current and voltage Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), smaller filter requirements, and improved distribution of current and voltage stress across power switches. The performance and effectiveness of the two compared strategies are validated through simulations conducted in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
