Optimization of MBRs through integrated modelling: A state of the art

Résumé

In this paper, we review MBR modelling with respect to its objectives and notably, in focussing on control, optimization and performance assessment. Whatever it is aerobic or anaerobic, the necessary coupling between biology and filtration – herebelow called integrated modelling - leads to the consideration of specific functioning conditions and optimization problems. This paper reviews the diversity of those problems, criteria used in performance assessment and give recommendations for mainstreaming the optimization of MBRs.
