Résumé

Mid-ocean islands from the South-Central Pacific are of pivotal importance for the reconstruction of Holocene sea-level changes and constraining the melt history of ice sheets. Far-field islands, i.e., far away from former ice sheets, represent ideal locations for such reconstructions, as the effect of the glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) is minimized. We agree with Tan et al. ( 2023) that it is essential to critically evaluate the relative sea-level (RSL) data that are used to validate GIA models. This implies a careful quality check that must be conducted during field studies, as the quality control of field data cannot be properly performed solely on photographs.
