Viewing Machines: Ethos and Praxis in Computer Vision
Résumé
This conference will look at different approaches to computer vision, focusing on the teleology of objects integrating CV algorithms. In particular, it will show different ethical implications by addressing them through the ethnographic method, and will consider three main levels of application: science, industry and society. From the point of view of the sciences, the presentation will focus on the framework of an experiment in an open environment framed by the now customary procedures of the ethics of scientific experimentation. The presentation will then turn to industry, looking at the practices of a team competing in the RoboCup Logistics League. This example will be used to consider the specific framework of industrial practices and will show another level of ethical implication. Finally, we will look at the integration of computer vision techniques into society, the various questions they raise today and the choices they imply at a socio-political level.
