CO2 utilization for the circular heavy carbon industry
Résumé
Heavy carbon industries such as iron and steel, cement, and chemicals production are a major challenge toward reaching the goal set during the Paris Agreement, which states that global warming must be limited to well below 2°C and efforts to limit it to 1.5°C must be pursued. These industries alone make up for more than two-thirds of the global industrial CO2 emissions and they are difficult to decarbonize due to their energy-intensive production processes. This chapter aims to briefly introduce and explain the processes and the emission-related beyond the heavy industry such as the iron and steel industry, manufacturing, and petrochemicals. In the second section, potential strategies, and solutions of CCUS are introduced to show how the heavy industry economy could be more circular.
