Upper Pleistocene population dynamics (Neandertals, Denisovans, Homo sapiens)
Résumé
The Upper Pleistocene period witnessed the greatest upheaval in the evolutionary history of our species. It was during this last ice age period that our Homo sapiens ancestors left Africa to disperse into Eurasia, then onto the American continent. During these migrations, they met the last representatives of archaic hominin groups populating Eurasia, including the Neandertals and Denisovan, with whom they share common ancestors more than 550 ka ago. By reviewing the paleoanthropological and (paleo)genomics data currently available, we discuss here the phylogenetic relationship between these groups and their interactions since their separation during the Middle Pleistocene.
