Update on the CETAMA's activities concerning interlaboratory comparisons and reference materials

Mise à jour des activités du CETAMA concernant les comparaisons interlaboratoires et les matériaux de référence

Résumé

Since its inception, the CETAMA has organised yearly interlaboratory comparisons (ILCs) with the aim to support analysts working the fields of chemical and radiological analysis at a global scale. These comparisons allow participants to assess the performance of analytical laboratories in the nuclear field as well as validate their specific methods and certify reference materials. In particular, the CETAMA’s ILCs focus on: -actinide analysis, primarily uranium and plutonium in monoelemental or mixed aqueous solutions, -trace elements and/or trace compounds chemical analysis, -alpha/beta/gamma emitters activity measurements in different matrices The actinide reference materials used for such proficiency tests are prepared in the LAMMAN laboratory of the Atalante facility at the CEA Marcoule centre. In addition to its role as an ILC organizer, the CETAMA’s activities in support of the nuclear sector bring it to produce and commercialize several actinide reference materials. Amongst the operations related to these activities, the CETAMA’s flagship project in recent years has been the production and certification of a high purity plutonium metal CRM. With production completed, the CRM’s certification (involving 8 international expert laboratories) is currently ongoing. The certificate of this new CRM will be issued at the end of 2023.
