Perception, savoirs locaux et stratégies d'adaptation aux changements climatiques des producteurs du secteur de Babougou de la zone Office Riz Ségou (ORS)
Résumé
Climate change is causing damage to Mali's agricultural sector. This paper is a study on the perception of climate change, local knowledge and adaptation strategies of producers in the Babougou sector of the Office Riz Ségou (ORS) area. With the survey data conducted in 2021, the results were obtained by estimating Logit models of the factors of perceptions of climate change and adaptation strategies. Producers reported perceiving climate change through the delay of rains, the distribution of rains, the shortening of the duration of the rainy season, the early cessation of rains, the frequency of rain abortion, the frequency of flooding, frequency of drought, upheavals in sowing dates, high winds, extreme temperatures. The determinants of the perception of climate change are gender, level of education, marital status, size of agricultural assets, membership of a farmers' organization, off-season cultivation, access to credit, number of years of experience, area cultivated with rice, quantity of rice produced, secondary activities (breeding, fishing and trade). The strategies adopted to adapt to climate change are: research or adoption of short-cycle crops, early, late, multiple or dry sowing, reduction of sowing, use of chemical fertilizers, abandonment or introduction of speculation, system of associated crops , modification of the agricultural calendar, change of cultivation technique, use of fertilizers, off-season, increase in cultivated areas, production of organic manure. Socioeconomic characteristics explain to some extent the adoption of climate change adaptation strategies. In addition, perceptions of environmental changes as well as perceptions of climate change are factors that determine the adoption of climate change adaptation strategies. The policy recommendations would be the sensitization of producers on the perceptions of climate change, the intensification of agriculture, the reduction of family labor, the ease of access to credit, the application of adaptation to climate change in the face of environmental modifications.
