Exploring the discrepancy between experiment and theory
Résumé
After introducing my connection with Chuck’s group and the Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) project, I will present a recent study on the stability of ferrofluid cylinders under a magnetic field, which was inspired by two of Chuck’s main research topics – complex fluids and electromagnetism. Several sources of discrepancy between experiment and theory will be discussed here, just as we previously did for the RT experiments. Finally, I will return to the RT problem for which a new viscous three-layer model was developed. This new model better explains the most recent RT experiments of Chuck’s group but also calls for new experiments!
