How do I do a superior vena cava stenting?Comment je pose un stent de la veine cave supérieure ?

Résumé

© 2024 Société française de radiologieIntroduction: The superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS) is related to an obstruction of the superior vena cava (SVC) by a tumor in 75% of cases and less frequently by a thrombosis at the tip of an indwelling central venous device (ICVD) wrongly positioned. The SVCS is treated by a self-expanded stent. Main messages: SVC stenting is indicated as a first-line treatment with technical success over 80%. It immediately improves symptoms and tolerance to anti-tumor treatment. In case of obstruction linked to an ICVD, the latter is the Ariadne s thread of venous recanalization and should never be removed before the interventional procedure. The long-term stent patency is currently proven. Conclusion: SVC stenting is technically easy in cancers and is justified as their prognosis improves. Occlusions due to ICVD are chronic and fibrous. They require technical expertise for venous recanalization.
