Leaving the perimeter of xenophobic thinking
Résumé
In moments of crisis, racism is revived. We are made to believe that immigrants are invading Europe, that they are the cause of our economic, health, security problems. There is a propaganda that forces us to imagine migrants as invaders and potential terrorists. Against these lies, Roberto Saviano shows that what is called “the migration emergency” is only “the emergency of the nullity of policies”. The images of photojournalists tell us about the impossible lives of migrants. The photos show us that these men, women and children are fleeing violence and war. What would we do in their place? As Sartre says, what must be avoided “is that our responsibility turns into guilt” if, in a hundred years, it could be said: they saw a global catastrophe coming and they kept silence. Against the absurdity of borders, another way, another voice, exist.
