The bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), obtained through bronchoscopy, a minimally invasive procedure performed for the diagnosis and monitoring of various lung conditions. This article outlines the various steps of bronchoalveolar lavage analysis in the laboratory and focuses on cytological analysis, including staining, types of cells or other elements that can be observed, as well as various pathological contexts requiring investigation by a BAL.
