Abstract

A Ni-BaTiO 3 functionally graded material (FGM) was elaborated from 5 separate layers, ranging from 0 to 100 wt.% Ni content, by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) method. To estimate the variation of mechanical properties in the FGM thickness, 5 homogenous mixtures (100% BaTiO 3 , 75% BaTiO 3 -25% Ni, 50% BaTiO 3 - 50% Ni, 25% BaTiO 3 -75% Ni and 100% Ni) were sintered. The density, the Vickers hardness, the Young's modulus and Poisson ratio were measured. In order to observe the impact of polarization on their properties (in future work), non-destructive tests are performed in this study. Results from monolithic pellet are gathered to identify the power law that governs the variation of this property in the FGM thickness. The results show that each property has its own power law.
